Board Details

Desired Board Quantity - The number of printed circuit boards (PCB’s) that you would like to order

Total # of manufacturer part #’s – This is the total number of different part numbers. Counting the lines on the Bill of Materials (BOM) should give you this answer.

Example

Qty Reference Part Footprint Part #
2 C1,C4 10UF/25V 1206 587-1337-1-ND
2 C3,C2 0.01UF 0603 399-1091-1-ND
5 C5,C6,C8,C9 0.1UF 0603 490-1519-1-ND
1 C7 4.7UF 0603 PCC2318CT-ND
1 D1 CMS04 MFLAT CMS04QCT-ND
The BOM above has 5 lines
There are 5 different part numbers
The Total # of manufacturers part #’s = 5

Double Sided SMT? – Select “yes” if there are surface mount components on both sides of the circuit board. This is important because in most cases an additional solder stencil must be purchased if there are parts on both sides. The circuit boards will also have to pass through our assembly line twice.

Lead Free Processing – Selecting “yes” will prompt us to use lead free solder. This is required for boards that must meet RoHS standards.

Lead free solder doesn’t make a PCB RoHS compliant because the components and board must also meet the standard. Boards that aren’t assembled using lead free solder cannot meet RoHS requirements. It is important that boards with non-RoHS components NOT be assembled using lead free processing. In some cases non-RoHS components can contaminate very expensive bulk solder supplies.

Components

SMT – This is the total number of parts that are a relatively low technology. These components must have lead spacing that is greater then 20 mils. Most discrete components such as resistors and capacitors fit into this category. Also in this category are most surface mount diodes, transistors, FET’s and many IC’s.

Example

Packages in this Category
1206
0805
0603
0402
SOT23
SOT23-6
SO-8
SOIC-8
SO-20
SOIC-20
SC-70
SMA
SMB

Fine Pitch – These components are mostly IC’s that have lead spacing 20 mil’s or less. This field also will contain many surface mount connectors like the ones used for flex.

Example
Packages in this Category
TQFP with 15 mil lead spacing

Thru-Hole – These components have leads that go through holes in the circuit board. Large capacitors, inductors, diodes, and connectors are likely to be thru-hole parts. Many other types of components can be thru-hole and they appear most often on older boards.

Example
Packages in this Category
DO-41
DIP-8
DIP-20
Axial
Radial

BGA/QFN/Leadless – These components make connection with the circuit board without leads or beneath the component. They are primarily IC’s but chipscale packages are currently being used for a wide variety of purposes including diodes, transistors, FET’s, and ESD protection.

Prototype and Short Run

If desired number of boards is less then 100 the boards will be considered prototype quantities. Orders for more then 100 boards are in the short run category. A different set of price breaks are used for these two categories. Significant savings can be realized on future short run orders by asking Horizon Printed Circuits to save your files and tools. This option can be selected during the ordering process.
